I am a textile designer-maker currently studying for an MA in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art and Design, London.
My practice is concerned with the traditional crafts batik and shibori, as well as other resist techniques. I am exploring their idenitity in Western society through Slow Design philosophies. Slow Design is encouraging traditional crafts as a valuable, sustainable alternative to fast consumerism. I aim to challenge people's perceptions of shibori and batik and reinventing their use in a contemporary way. I am developing an ongoing project in this area of textiles with an approach to fabrics for use in interior settings.

I am intrigued by the natural environment and the effects that occur due to erosion, rivers etc, as well as the concept of chaos theory. Chaos and order and mathematical fractals have informed my design. Most of my design comes through constantly playing with and manipulating the fabric to see how far I can push a process. I like working with unexpected combinations of techniques and use a sophisticated colour palette.

I use natural fabrics such as silk and cotton and try to source organic or alternative fibres where possible.

My work has previously been suited to fashion, accessories and children's wear, but I am now developing textiles for the interiors market.

After completing the MA I hope to enter into teaching, advising and lecturing as well as being involved in community projects and freelancing.
